About Our Guest: Vital Heim
Vital Heim is a marine biologist and student at The University of Basel in Switzerland studying for his PhD in Zoology. His research evolves around sharks and for the last 5 years, he has been studying great and scalloped hammerhead sharks in the Bahamas, the US Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. After finishing his BSc in Biology at the University of Bern (CH), he completed his MSc in Animal Biology at the University of Basel where he investigated the presence of great hammerhead sharks at a famous provisioning and dive site in Bimini, The Bahamas. In 2018, he started his PhD where he is studying more about the ecological role of hammerhead sharks and their interactions with southern stingrays (one of their favorite prey items), He is focusing on where great and scalloped hammerhead sharks travel to in the US Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico and how we can protect them effectively during their migrations.
