Alice Ball (1892-1916) was an American chemist.

FAST FACTS:

  • First woman to get her master’s degree and become a professor at the University of Hawaii
  • Her interest for chemistry was sparked at a very early age because of her parents’ work in developing photographs using chemicals
  • Developed a treatment for leprosy, called the Ball Method
  • Died from unknown causes at only 24 years old
  • Her work was stolen by another chemist, and it was not revealed until years later that the work was actually hers
