Dr. Benjamin Banneker (1731-1806) was an American scientist and inventor.
FAST FACTS:
- His mother was a freed slave
- Used mathematical calculations to determine when eclipses would occur
- Wrote about cicadas appearing from the ground every 17 years
- He wrote almanacs to predict certain space events
- Observed the behaviors of honey bees and how they interact with each other
- The first person in America to build a clock
