American Surgeon
Dr. Daniel Hale Williams (1858-1931) was an American heart surgeon.
FAST FACTS:
- He got his degree at Northwestern University Medical School
- Founder of Provident Hospital, which was the first non-segregated hospital in the United States
- Performed the first successful open heart surgery in 1893
- Was the co-founder of the National Medical Association
- Became the first black man to become a member of the American College of Surgeons
