Dr. Emmett Chappelle (1925-2019) was an American scientist and inventor.
FAST FACTS:
- Got his Master’s degree from the University of Washington
- Discovered that bacteria can use photosynthesis to make their own food
- This helped NASA produce oxygen in their spaceships
- Worked for NASA to take soil samples from Mars
- Figured out a way to use chemicals produced by fireflies to detect ATP (energy)
- Inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame
