Dr. Roger Arliner Young (1899 – 1964) was a Zoologist, Biologist and Marine Biologist.

FAST FACTS:

First-ever Black woman to get her doctorate in zoology

Received her Bachelor’s degree from Howard University and her Master’s from the University of Chicago

She worked on many projects throughout her life, including how the sun’s radiation has an impact on certain marine organisms

First Black woman in her field to have her research published

Contributed a great amount to the field of marine biology and what we know about some marine animals today
