Dr. Roger Arliner Young (1899 – 1964) was a Zoologist, Biologist and Marine Biologist.

FAST FACTS:

  • First-ever Black woman to get her doctorate in zoology
  • Received her Bachelor’s degree from Howard University and her Master’s from the University of Chicago
  • She worked on many projects throughout her life, including how the sun’s radiation has an impact on certain marine organisms
  • First Black woman in her field to have her research published
  • Contributed a great amount to the field of marine biology and what we know about some marine animals today
